Transforming organic waste into renewable resources

A new renewable energy facility in Chicago’s Southland will convert organic waste into valuable products, creating new jobs and new opportunities along the way.

The Chicago area is home to more than 4,500 food and beverage producers that generate vast amounts of organic waste. Using a biorefinery process developed from proven technology used around the world, Sustainable BioWorks will recover the valuable energy trapped inside this waste, transforming it into renewable natural gas, captured carbon dioxide and green agricultural products.

Sustainable BioWorks is a new type of green company that focuses on environmental sustainability and the circular economy. Our facility, currently under design and construction, is an anaerobic digester complex that will take in thousands of tons of food waste every day.

When our new Southland plant opens, it will:
